Authorities say Greene orchestrated an elaborate hoax in July, falsely claiming she had been attacked by three men while hiking a nature trail at the Egg Harbor Nature Reserve in Southern New Jersey because she supported Donald Trump. According to the 911 call, placed not by Greene but by an alleged accomplice, these mystery assailants beat her with a gun, held her down, carved her body with a knife, and scrawled “Trump whore” and “Van Drew Is Racist” across her stomach.
Police quickly discovered that none of the reported attack was real.
Greene allegedly paid someone $500 to inscribe fake cuts into her skin, cuts she had helpfully designed herself. Investigators used cell tower data to track her route, discovered matching zip ties in her Maserati, and even obtained surveillance footage of her purchasing the zip ties at a Dollar Store near Atlantic City. Greene now faces charges of conspiracy to convey false statements and hoaxes, and making false statements to federal investigators. She has been released on a $200,000 unsecured bond.
