I was listening to Sam Harris yesterday, and learned that Douglas Murray went on to Joe Rogan’s podcast in hopes of talking sense to him about his irresponsibility in broadcasting.
Harris, Murray, and Rogan have been friends in the past, so Douglas thought having this conversation was important – especially since Rogan has recently been platforming a Holocaust denier.
Red Flag – Rogan would only allow Murray on if ‘Comedian’ Dave Smith could be there as well.
Murray didn’t quite understand this, but agreed nonetheless.
What apparently went down was two ‘bro comedians’ double teaming Murray with the idea that he was an ‘intellectual elitist’ of some level.
Harris made the point that this whole era is highly disturbing because these ‘bro comedians’ have created an atmosphere where their ‘pseudo-intellectual conspiracy-verse’ has taken hold of large segments of the public, but unlike with real experts in various fields who pay a reputational price when they’re wrong about something, these clowns simply fall back on the ‘Emergency Eject Button’ of “Bro…I’m just a comic, what do I know?” when they get their asses handed to them in ways they can’t navigate away from.
And yes….THIS is why, as Anthony Jeselnik said in his last Netflix special…
“If you listen to Joe Rogan’s podcast….you’re a fuckin’ loser.”.
What we’re watching consume our society – large scale – is an atmosphere of the jocks and class clowns, laughing at the nerds for making honor roll.
And when the nerds fire off a point that humiliates the jocks, they give them wedgies and think they ‘owned’ them as other imbeciles laugh and applaud.
THIS is our society now.
THIS is what these ‘Bro-Casts’ have done.
It never even occurs to the listeners that all of these guys are just comedians that – for the most part – have never even held real jobs, and don’t hold any legitimate expertise in any of the arenas in which they’re trying to compete.
So my suggestion for the Harrises and Murrays of the world is…
Stop legitimizing Joe Rogan and his cast of Bro-Comic ghouls.
Dismiss them for what they are, and stop allowing them to carry currency among real thinkers.
At a certain point, you have a responsibility too.
